Coming from an education background, I learned that individualizing content to each person was the best way for them to be successful. Now, marketing content is wildly different from teaching Algebra II, but the same principle is true. I have had the distinct privilege of writing for a couple of the clients I work with in order to help grow their businesses. I will admit that I was nervous when I began. I used to tell my students all the time that “words were hard”. Honestly, I think I took that to heart and believed for a long time that I wasn’t a good writer. So I started with what I knew: Individualized attention.
I researched my clients and who they were. I dove deep into not only their business but their personality as an individual. Through conversations and time spent with each client, I learned what they were passionate about and what their priorities were. Just like my students, I was able to hone in on who they were and tailor my approach accordingly. In a way, believing I wasn’t a fantastic writer enabled me to actually improve my skill. Since I was coming from a place of humility, any input I received I was able to take in stride instead of feeling the need to defend my work.
Individualized attention means you have taken the time to understand what is important to your client and what will help grow their business. Only when you have a deep understanding of their goals, style, and preferences can you write effectively. Individualized attention is not just a one-and-done item on your to-do list. It requires consistent time spent with your client so that your relationship is cohesive and collaborative. By consistently spending time with my client, I have insight I would never have gained otherwise. Is my client in a season of growth? Is my client overwhelmed? Does my client have a specific type of customer they are currently trying to reach? Knowing these things helps dictate what should be written about and the calls to action that can move their audience in the direction we want them to go.
The greatest part of this experience was gaining confidence in my own abilities. I learned that, while my writing may not be for everyone, it was the perfect fit for my client. The most amazing part? I’m not alone in this. My entire team here at NextLevel Thinking is full of the same type of people. The type of people who go the extra mile for our clients and tailor our processes to each individual. Our individualized attention on each of our clients ensures we learn what makes our clients tick. Taking the time to do this allows us to take great care of our clients. Each of NLT’s clients is taken care of like family, which is why being a part of this team is so incredible!
